Description
Young boys sit and stand atop the fence and posts surrounding Christ Episcopal Church in Alexandria in a glass-plate photograph made about 1863 by Mathew Brady. The original building, without the bell tower, was completed in 1773; the distinctive belfrey was added in 1821. Members of the congegation included George Washington and Robert E. Lee.
